Find the hidden five-letter word in five goes. Spellings are British, so it's mould not mold and metre not meter. Some answers are proper British words like cuppa or skint.
Green: C is in the word and in the right place.
Mustard: O is in the word but in a different place.
Slate: there is no second L in the word.
Type on your keyboard or tap the keys. Each guess must be a real word, or a name from the current Speckle Special.
Everyone playing Speckle is given the same word, so you can compare results with friends. Usually it's today's word, which changes at midnight UK time. Sometimes a shared word is set for a few hours or days instead, and the line under the Speckle title shows when it ends.
Finished the word everyone's playing? Open the stats panel and press Practice word to keep going with a random word. Play as many as you like.
Practice games don't count towards your stats or streak. While you're on one, the line under the title says Practice word. If a new shared word goes live in the meantime, Speckle switches you to it as soon as your current game ends.
Now and then Speckle runs a Special: a themed word list for an occasion. The first is the Dickens Special, full of characters and places from his novels.
While a Special is on, its name shows under the title, and today's word and practice words come from it. Names count as guesses even though they're not in the dictionary, so FAGIN and QUILP are fair game. After each game, a note tells you who or what the word was.
